Complimentary therapy is a diverse group of traditional practice comprised mainly of herbal and dietary supplement. Complimentary medicine in medical treatment that is note part of the usual scientific treatment used in western countries for example acupuncture. A wide range of or in addition to ordinary medicine. Design: A quantitative approach using Survey research design. Participants: 300 selected hypertensive patients were selected using Non-Probability Convenient sampling technique in Mehsana city. Tool: Self- Structured Knowledge Questionnaire and attitude rating scale (likert scale). Results: The data obtained were analyzed and interpreted in the light of objective using descriptive and inferential statistics.26.33% of sample had poor knowledge score (0-6), 60.33% of them had average knowledge score (713) and 13.33% of them had good knowledge score (14-20) regarding selected complimentary therapies. 22% of patients have negative attitude while 78% have positive attitude towards complimentary therapies. The correlation coefficient was done to assess relation between knowledge and attitude. The result was 0.60. It shows there was moderate relation between knowledge and attitude regarding selected complimentary therapies. Chi-square test used to associate the level of knowledge and attitude with selected demographic variable at 0.05 level of significant. INTRODUCTION:
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY:
“Without health life is not life it is only a state of languor and suffering an image of death.”
Buddha.
Heart is a vital organ of the body. The main function of the heart is supply the blood to the whole body. A pressure is needed to supply the blood to whole body so blood pressure is a product of cardiac output multiplied by peripheral resistance it was an English clergyman, who first measures the blood pressure in mare. High blood pressure known as hypertension can result from a change in cardiac output and change in peripheral resistance or both.1 Hypertension is a chronic condition of concern due to its role in the causation of coronary heart disease, stroke and other vascular complication. Hypertension is one of the leading causes of death and disability among adult, hypertension is a arterial vascular condition with the sustained elevation in blood pressure.1
The trend of using complimentary therapies in the control of blood pressure is growing. Complimentary therapies constitute therapies that are not classified as standard pharmacological treatment. It contains domains of healing resources linked with individual beliefs and cultural treatment practices like the use of crude herbs, meditation, massage, biofeedback, reflexology, acupuncture, spirituality, homeopathy, hypnosis. Notably, therapies of complimentary are differ according to the cultural diversity around the world. Information on the guidelines for preparation, doses, and dispensing is still insufficient and inconvenient. Previous studies have reported the use of variety of herbal, non-herbal and other approaches in the control of blood pressure. The rate of using complimentary therapies in the management of blood pressure was as high as 85.7%. The considerable use of complimentary therapies among HTN patients gives an indication of a distinct attitude towards it. Previous studies have found that users of complimentary therapies were characterized by a positive.2
Complimentary medicine in medical treatment that is note part of the usual scientific treatment used in western countries for example acupuncture. A wide range of or in addition to ordinary medicine.3
NEED OF THE STUDY:
According WHO refers the Hypertension is a very common disease in the population, about 20% of adult population is suffering from hypertension in India.
Though hypertension is a major cause of heart failure, stroke and kidney failure yet its called the “silent killer” because the person who has its often symptoms free many individual with hypertension do not know they have it, prevention and control on hypertension with complimentary therapies represents in major challenge to our health care system.14
The Google current data of hypertension in Sep 25, 2019 are Andhra Pradesh (13.3%), Odessa (9%), Chhattisgarh (8.4%), Gujarat (6.7%), have highest prevalence while Assam and Rajasthan (1.4%), Kerala (2.4%), Bihar (2.7%) and Uttar Pradesh (3.6%) are low prevalence states. Recent studies from India have shown the prevalence of hypertension to be 25% in urban and 10% in rural people in India.17
BMC complimentary medicine Research article on 19 July 2010 in the study sample, 29% used complimentary therapy in the management of their hypertension. Among those using complimentary the most common forms used were herbs (63%) and garlic (21%).18
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
“A study to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding selective complimentary therapies for management of hypertension among hypertensive patients in selected area of Mehsana City.”
OBJECTIVES:
1. To assess the knowledge regarding selective complimentary therapies for management of hypertension among hypertensive patients.
2. To assess the attitude regarding selective complimentary therapies for management of hypertension among hypertensive patients.
3. To correlated the knowledge and attitude regarding selective complimentary therapies for management of hypertension among hypertensive patients.
4. To find out the association between knowledge and attitude with their selected demographic variables.
ASSUMPTION:
· Patients may have inadequate knowledge regarding complimentary therapies.
· Stress may results in increased blood pressure, complimentary therapies will help to reduce the blood pressure.
· Patient may have negative attitude regarding complimentary therapies.
METHODOLOGY:
A Quantitative approach was used in study to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding selective complimentary therapies for management of hypertension among hypertensive patient in selected area of Mehsana City. According to Basavanthappa, B. T. (2007), Quasi experiment is a quantitative research approach in which there is always manipulation of the independent variable and control measures are employed, but the other element of a true experiment, random assignment of subjects is absent.
RESULTS:
The data obtained were analyzed and interpreted in the light of objective using descriptive and inferential statistics. 26.33% of sample had poor knowledge score (0-6), 60.33% of them had average knowledge score (713) and 13.33% of them had good knowledge score (14-20) regarding selected complimentary therapies. 22% of patients have negative attitude while 78% have positive attitude towards complimentary therapies. The correlation coefficient was done to assess relation between knowledge and attitude. The result was 0.600. It shows there was moderate relation between knowledge and attitude regarding selected complimentary therapies. Chi-square test used to associate the level of knowledge and attitude with selected demographic variable at 0.05 level of significant. Attitude of the samples towards complimentary therapies 66(22%) of samples had unfavorable attitude score whereas 234(78%) had favorable attitude score.
